Mindset: Elsa Mora

Vista general

With a combination of glassine paper and glue, Mora creates twisted volumetric rope-like “lines” mounted on wooden panels through a process that is meditative, introspective, and improvisational in a series called ‘Mindset’.

This series of 6 process-oriented pieces under the title Mindset is based on the book: "Obliquity. Why our goals are best achieved indirectly" by John Kay. This book describes the process of achieving complex objectives indirectly through risk-taking and discovery. With a combination of glassine paper and glue, I created twisted volumetric rope-like “lines” that I then attached to wooden panels, and covered them with acrylic paint. As the last step and at a slow pace, I painted a third layer of thin lines and small dot patterns through a process that was meditative, introspective, and improvisational. I created this series in Rhode Island during a period of time when my son was receiving treatment at a clinic. I see this work as process-oriented because the making of it worked as self-regulatory and creative coping tool at a time of several anxiety-inducing unknowns.
