Biography

Osmeivy Ortega graduated from San Alejandro Fine Art Academy in 2003, specializing in Printmaking, and furthered his studies at The Royal Institute of Art (Kungliga Konsthögskolan) in Stockholm, Sweden in 2009. He finished his advanced studies at the University for the Arts (ISA), graduating in 2010.

 

Throughout his career, Ortega has garnered recognition through numerous international artistic residencies, including prestigious programs such as Documenta in Kassel, Germany, and the Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. Ortega is a member of the Experimental Graphic Workshop of Havana and has made significant contributions to the field as a Professor of Printmaking from 2003 to 2015 at San Alejandro Fine Art Academy and ISA. 

 

His artistic career has been showcased through solo exhibitions in Cuba, New Zealand, Japan, and the United States, among other locations, and he has also been featured in multiple group exhibitions worldwide. Ortega's works is part of public collections such as the Cuban Fund of Cultural Assets, the AMBA collection in Paris, the MOLAA Museum in Los Angeles, and the Rockefeller Foundation in New York, among others. Additionally, his pieces are held in private collections in various countries including Cuba, Colombia, Mexico, Japan, Portugal, Turkey, the United States, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

 

He lives and works in Havana, Cuba.
