OCCASIONAL LANDSCAPES
SAMUEL RIERA
We join the artist on a journey of discovery to a world where precise, multi-layered, dimensional paper collages, often cut from fashion magazines, spring to life as the thriving inhabitants of Planeta Sandra. She manages to blend the whimsical and the sensual, the threatening and the sublime as she recounts the mythological folklore of a primordial world not that far from our own.
With an explorer’s eye and a botanist’s discipline, Sandra meticulously catalogs each Sandremios by genus and species as specimens deserving of further study.
In these collages, I deconstruct everyday forms to create new narratives.
Through the use of nature, science and whimsy, I invent new landscapes and environments in a visual language that is uniquely my own.
-Sandra Cordero
As curator and philosopher, Luis Ramaggio, observes, “As any respected expeditionist, she quietly observes and classifies. As a visionary. As a hungry expert. As a mentalist. Lurking around her own self, and wandering through her habits and personality, Sandra discovers that she herself is a world.”

JORLY GONZÁLEZ CONTADOR

Jorly González Contador was born in Las Tunas, Cuba in 1969 and studied at the Escuela Profesional de Artes in Las Tunas.
He is a multi-disciplinary artist who works in a variety of mediums including photography, painting and conceptual sculptures using found objects; roofing tiles, umbrellas and even drywall tape. His architectural bent is evident in the structural components throughout his work.
"Common texts don’t exist and just there is where the emergence of my painting lives on and is nurtured by almost every trend showed up to the sight; if every painting shown or hung on walls in important centers or in the most humble places SING! in unison, what may happen, I will leave to your own imagination. I allow myself to do this metaphor because the central idea of these creations fluctuates with that lack of rhythm that when heading to contaminate every centimeter of the fabric, the granulated blushes because it doesn’t know what system or trend they have to bear; who knows if when all of them sing, enlightenment will arrive."
His work has been displayed in Cuba, the United States, Germany & Slovakia and is in collections in Mexico, Spain, Switzerland, the United States & Canada.
Jorly currently lives and works in Havana, Cuba.
