DANCO DUPORTAI

Picture Of Danco Robert Duportai.

(b. Havana, Cuba 1997):  Somewhat shocking in their miniature scale—obsessive, romantic and dreamlike come to mind when first encountering Danco’s work.

“In the process of making them something peculiar happens to me, it's a magical time of meditation, my pupils enlarge, and I perceive them clearly and feel myself inside the image. You could say that all these pieces were based on snapshots I take. I consider all these works to be intimate, but I expose them to the public, like someone who shows a family album. They are images based on my life. From a blurred portrait, my pet, or the simple fact of going out to the street and lighting a streetlamp.”

It’s not surprising to learn he uses a magnifying glass to create these miniature oil paintings in some cases replete with intricate detail, always with intrigue.

The artist currently lives and works in Mexico.
